Lil Wayn’es sentencing has been delayed until March 2 due to dental surgery, his attorney announced in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday (February 9).

The rapper was scheduled to be formally sentenced by a judge and begin serving his one-year term stemming from a 2007 arrest that resulted in a guilty plea in October for attempted weapons possession.

She informed the judge that she sent a notification to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office that the rapper is suffering from a cracked tooth and would need to postpone his sentence. The judge agreed and ruled to reschedule for March 2.

The rapper is set to undergo surgery February 12 in Miami, according to Richman. He will need a week to 10 days to recover. His defense offered prosecutors February 25 as a date for Wayne to turn himself him in after surgery, but Judge Charles H. Solomon instead selected March 2.

The judge then warned Wayne that he must return to Miami on Tuesday. Solomon insisted if he leaves tomorrow, there would be a chance his surgery would be delayed due to hazardous weather conditions leaving New York.

“I don’t want this to get pushed back anymore,” Solomon said. “This is the last adjournment.”

“Lil Wayne is gonna be OK,” retired NYPD detective and noted “hip-hop cop” Derrick Parker told MTV News. “While he’s in jail, it’s a matter of fact they may not put him with the general population because of who he is and his popularity. They might lock him down and let him come out with a supervisor and stuff like that [when he's] in the main area — but he’s definitely going to be treated differently.”

According to Parker, the way Wayne will be handled will depend on safety concerns for the rapper as well as an effort to maintain as much normalcy at the facility as possible — it won’t resemble pampered treatment by any means. Parker said despite Wayne’s small physical stature and his propensity to signal a particular gang affiliation in his rhymes, the rapper won’t have much to fear in terms of extortion, bullying or worse.

“Wayne is from the streets, from the Magnolia Houses in New Orleans, so I’m sure those guys have been in jail or locked up at some point,” Parker said. “So being in prison is no big deal to them. Plaxico [Burress] isn’t built for that — he’s the type of guy that’s never been locked up like that before. He’s gonna need a coach or someone to tell him what to expect, since he’s not used to that.”

Sergeant Brad Finucan of the Waterloo Regional Police’s Criminal Investigations branch told MTV News on Sunday (January 10) that Banks (real name: Christopher Lloyd) and three associates got into a dispute with the promoter at a local hotel over payment for performance and an appearance fee. The promoter’s name was withheld by police.

The promoter alleged that early Saturday morning the lyricist and three associates — Nicklas Sloane, Shawn McGee, and Tyrell Cooper — held him in his hotel room against his will, assaulted and robbed him. All four men were charged with forceful confinement, aggravated assault and robbery.

Just days after being released from prison and transferred to a halfway house, T.I. is reportedly is already heading back to the studio. Former Atlantic Records music executive Kevin Liles recently took to his twitter account where he hinted that TIP is making new music. “My right hand went home to visit family & found his way to the studio. He said ‘why wait for 2010, get it in now’ Love the attitude,” the message read. The twitter post was later deleted, so was he talking about T.I.? We may never know.

In related news, T.I. was recently released from prison (on December 22nd) and transferred to a halfway house. “He was released this morning from his place of incarceration in Arkansas,” Steve Sadow (TIPs lawyer) said. “As I understand it, he’s on his way back to the Atlanta area. He has to report to a halfway house in Atlanta sometime this evening. And he will then spend somewhere between the next two or three months in a halfway house, ending his Bureau of Prison sentence.”
