After leaving prison walls, he will undergo the final phase of his 23-month sentence related to dogfighting, in which he will be confined to his Hampton, Virginia home on house arrest, only being allowed to leave for work.

His work will be a full-time construction job, reports ESPN, and he’ll likely be allowed about five hours a week for other court-approved activities.

Less than 5% of federal inmates are transferred directly from prison to home confinement. Most are transferred to a halfway house, but beds in Vick’s area were all full.

Permissible activities for inmates on home confinement typically include medical appointments, religious obligations and meetings with probation officials. No dinners out, no visiting friends, and definitely no bars or night clubs.

Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison for his role in the operation and financing of the Bad Newz Kennels dogfighting ring. As a result of the conviction, he was suspended from play in the NFL.

He’s spent the past 19 months in prison, and is scheduled to remain under home confinement until late July.

Some in the sports community have begun to call for his reinstatement. However, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has not determined the potential reinstatement process for Vick just yet. Goodell says he’ll have to prove he’s remorseful for his actions.

“I think that’s going to be up to Michael,” Goodell told the Associated Press this week. “Michael’s going to have to demonstrate to myself and the general public and to a lot of people, did he learn anything from this experience? Does he regret what happened? Does he feel that he can be a positive influence going forward? Those are questions that I would like to see when I sit with him.”

Until then, he’ll be working for $10/hour as a full-time construction worker. At least, until July.

The Humane Society of the United States says Michael Vick wants to work with the group on a program aimed at eradicating dogfighting among urban teens.

Humane Society president, Wayne Pacelle, told the AP that he met with Vick while he was in prison, saying the football player’s legal team had approached the animal-rights group.

Former NJ Nets player Jason Williams, who gained international fame for allegedly shoting his driver in the bedroom of his New Jersey mansion after one too may drinks in 2002 is back in police custody. ESPN reports:

Officers stunned a drunken and agitated Jayson Williams with a Taser at a swank Manhattan hotel Monday morning after reports that the troubled ex-NBA star appeared suicidal, police said. Police were called to the hotel in Battery Park City in lower Manhattan around 4 a.m. after a report that the former New Jersey Nets star was suicidal, authorities said. When officers arrived, there were empty bottles of prescription drugs strewn around the disheveled hotel suite of the 6-foot-10 Williams, police said. Emergency Services Unit police, an elite team trained to deal with emotionally disturbed people, responded and stunned Williams with a Taser, handcuffed him and took him to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

The team released the troubled wide receiver Friday afternoon, ending a four-year relationship that began when he was signed as a free agent before the 2005 season and reached a boiling point when Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg in a Manhattan night club in November. Burress was suspended for the final four games of the 2008 season after that incident and although Giants players and coaches said he would be welcomed back, the team decided to move ahead without him.

“I am an optimist, and I believe most situations can be worked out,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “We hung in there as long as we could in hopes that there could be a resolution to this situation other than the decision we made today to release Plaxico. It wasn’t to be, so now we have to move on. Like everybody else here, we want nothing but the best for Plaxico, and we are appreciative of the contributions he made to this franchise.”

In his four years with the Giants Burress caught 344 passes for 3,681 yards and 33 touchdown passes. He caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII.

“Plaxico’s contribution to our championship season in 2007 can never be underestimated or undervalued,” Tom Coughlin said. “He displayed tremendous determination throughout that season. Having said that, I have always been as concerned about Plaxico as a man as I have been about him as a player, and my hope is that everything that has happened over the past several months represents a turning point. He is a young man with a family who has a whole lifetime ahead of him, and I personally wish him and his family well.”

Michael Vick has left a federal lockup in Kansas, apparently bound for Virginia to appear at a bankruptcy hearing next week.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons Web site showed Wednesday that Vick was no longer at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan. It listed his status as “in transit.”

It was not clear when he left, or where he was. But two weeks ago, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Frank Santoro demanded that Vick to testify at an April 2 hearing in Newport News about whether his Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan should be confirmed. Another judge issued a court order directing federal marshals to bring the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback to Virginia for the hearing.

Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Victoria Joseph said bureau policy prohibits disclosure of the prisoner’s destination until after he arrives. Vick’s attorneys did not immediately return phone messages left by The Associated Press.

Vick is serving 23 months for bankrolling a dogfighting conspiracy. He is eligible to move into home confinement no earlier than May 21 and is scheduled to be released from custody on July 20.

Vick will likely be kept in a southeastern Virginia jail until the hearing, but it wasn’t known which one. Newport News Sheriff Gabe Morgan said he had not been notified that Vick would be staying in the city jail, but it was possible Vick and federal marshals would show up unannounced.

The judge overseeing Vick’s bankruptcy case rejected the idea of allowing testimony by video hookup, saying he needed Vick in the courtroom so he could assess his demeanor and credibility.

Vick’s plan for paying his creditors is based largely on his intention to resume his NFL career. Vick was suspended indefinitely after his 2007 indictment, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said he will review Vick’s status after he is released.

The Falcons still hold the contract rights to Vick but have said they will try to trade him. Vick’s bankruptcy plan would allow him to keep the first $750,000 of his annual pay. After that, a percentage would go to his creditors based on a sliding scale.

Kobe Bryant’s former maid Maria Jimenez is suing the NBA star over claims that his wife Vanessa was verbally and mentally abusive to her. Maria claimed Vanessa called her “lazy, slow, dumb, a f—ing liar, and f—ing sh-t” and the final straw was when she forced her to take a price tag for a garment out a bag of dogshit after she mistakenly put the $690 blouse in the family’s dishwasher, in an Orange Country courtroom this week. Maria says she attempted to quit but was told by Vanessa she had to work until she paid for the blouse, which she did.
